While the regulation and delivery of health care has changed dramatically over the last several decades, Curry, Caviness & Webb continues to provide high quality representation in today’s highly complicated and shifting regulatory environment. Our health care attorneys use their industry knowledge and experience to provide sophisticated guidance on the most difficult issues facing healthcare providers, including strategic advice on regulatory matters, evolving models for delivery of care, and complex litigation.
We believe in a team approach to handling complex medical cases. Our medical-legal staff includes a legal nurse consultant which gives our firm a depth in health care law that many other firms cannot match. We also have established relationships with experts in all fields of medicine, both in academic and clinical practice, whom we call upon to assist in evaluating and defending medical malpractice and other health care cases.
We handle medical malpractice cases from the panel stage through completion of litigation, often involving interpretation of issues related to Louisiana’s Medical Malpractice Act. We also prepare and review professional healthcare service contracts.
Medical Review Panel
Established by the Louisiana Medical Malpractice Act, the Medical Review Panel (MRP) process was established to allow a patient to receive an early opinion about whether a healthcare provider met the standard of care before moving forward with a medical malpractice lawsuit. Curry, Caviness & Webb is pleased to have in-house an Attorney Chairman for Medical Review Panels.
The Attorney Chairman manages the MRP and oversees the panel process from the time he is nominated to the conclusion. He notifies panel members of their nomination to the panel, oversees the deadlines to confirm the panel moves forward in a timely manner, and issues the panel opinions rendered by the panel members.
